Context Architects
Context Architects is an international architecture practice that focuses on urbanism, architecture, and design.
Our working process can be divided into three important steps: investigation, experimentation and simplification. Each project demands full commitment in order to achieve the best solution for every part of the process.
At Context Architects we see collaboration as the best method to understand the objectives and expectations of each project. Therefore all disciplines are involved into the architectural project from very beginning.
We define architectural quality as focusing on the purpose of each project despite the scale, program, or cultural implications. By defining priorities we invent new methods to channel our creativity, which in turn will naturally generate unexpected concepts and fusions.
Global societies have the desire to be surprised by new theoretical approaches, and architecture assumes an important role in the modeling of these same societies. In such a complex ecosystem, we as architects need to understand and negotiate the consequences of our interventions, from cultural to social, from technical to financial.
João Vieira Costa, the principal of Context Architects, has been working internationally since 2004. In 2005/2006 he worked at PLOT (JDS Architects + BIG); 2007 in Holland with NLarchitects, MVRDV and OMA/Rem Koolhaas; and 2008 in Norway with Code Arkitektur combined with a teaching position at AHO (Oslo School of Architecture and Design). In 2008 he founded ONOFFICE Architects together with Leon Rost, and in 2010 he founded Context Architects.
Through ONOFFICE Architects, and now at Context Architects, João Vieira Costa has been leading various projects such as: Terminus Hotel (Bergen, Norway), Al Ain masterplan (Al Ain, Emirates), Tribuna de Anchieta (Anchieta, Brasil), Fábrica (Porto, Portugal), among others.
